Have we got a great show planned this year. First, the details you know.
The show is April 17, 2010 from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids.
BIG SURPRISE #1
Thanks to Presenting Sponsor Frames Unlimited, Jake's Music Festival 2010 will be a FREE show. That's right, no admission fee. But we will, of course, be accepting donations for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
BIG SURPRISE # 2
We have a fantastic line-up. (Okay that's probably not a surprise, since Clay Grueber does a great job every year booking the bands.)
Simien the Whale
Igby Iris
The Rhythm Dogs
Lynn Thompson Band
Those Eighty Acres
Spitting Image (Grand Rapids School of Rock)
We will be announcing additional solo artists soon. And there will be a silent auction. Is this going to fun, or what?
Thanks to all our sponsors who are helping make this year's show the best ever: Frames Unlimited, Magic Hat#9, Natural Landscape Services, WYCE, PJ's Sound and Backline, and Connie's Cakes.

TEAM NOTE - 2/22!
So - the Ultimate Cycle Challenge is in the rear view mirror. What a day! Our JDRF Team was one of 40-some Teams grinding it out, listening to some goreat live music (ok - and some not-so-great) and helping to (as Kaat Tahy oh-so-delicately put it) "kick cancer in the junk"! Nice work and thanks go to our riders: JD Stone, Tom Miller, Kevin Owens, Kris Couturier, John Jasker, Kaat Tahy (who set a PR w/ 150-some miles!), Brad Spooner, Katie Clark (her bike still has DV dust on it!), Coach Derek, Kirsten Dykstra, Lynne Gallagher, Chris Machuta & Sarah Andro. It was a good time (well...mostly) and it was cool to see our jersey there in the thick of things as it were.
DEATH VALLEY UPDATE. I spoke w/ Trish @ the Nat'l office this AM. With promising anything (which is how it should be) she told me that historically they've been "able to accomodate" folks from the waiting list for DV. So - that means that you can still be talkin it up w/ your friends, fam and riding buds. Chances are really good that they'll get in!
SPEAKING OF RECRUITING.....One great way to do so would be to invite prospective riders to the big Kick-off Party on 3/13. Feel free to do so - and let me know if you need me to send 'em the e-vite.
SPEAKING OF FUND RAISING.....okay, maybe we weren't, exactly, but we are now, right? I got an e-mail from Cindy this weekend indicating that we have 5 big nights this week @ Van Andel and therte's still room for you. Contact her (cindy_aley@hermanmiller.com) for the scoop. The VA season is winding down a bit but it's gonna finish w/ a bang!
Also - be sure you share any and all details of any fund-raising projects you have goin' w/ the rest of us! I don't wanna hafta learn about any more chocolate-related festivities via Facebook!
Okay - thats' it for now. Lotsa ride opportunities still around - we're having the "Soup Ride" here @ the shop on Sunday the 28th @ 2:00pm. it won't be long now!
You guys rock and I'll never get tired of telling you that!

ULTIMATE CYCLE CHALLENGE TIME!
I'm headin' over to the UCC in about 10 minutes. Remember - if you can stop in any time 'tween 8pm tonight and 8pm tommorow to "take a sip" and cheer on your team mates - I'd encourage you to do so! There's lotsa live entertainment too (I recommmend the Last Call Band tonight @ 8pm and Funktion tomorrow @ 4:30pm.)
Members of the Team that you might see riding include: JD Stone, Tom Miller, Kevin Owens, Kris Bentley-Courterier, John Jasker, Cathy "Kaat" Tahy, Brad Spooner, Katie Clark, Coach Derek, Kirsten Dykstra, Lynne Gallagher, Sarah Andro, Linda Clark and my-own-tired-self. We'll be there flyin' the JDRF colors and makin' the scene.
C'mon down!
Evergreen Commons is @ 480 State Street in Holland.
See you there!

GR Bike Film Festival Update 2
Good news! The full documentary will be shown this Saturday at the Grand Rapids Bicycle Film Festival. The Wealthy Theatre will be using two different screening areas to show films. The 10 minute excerpt version of the documentary will show in the main theatre. The full documentary will be showing in the Koning Micro Cinema.
So lets all be there. Coach Mike Clark said in a comment to the previous post "allow me to put in a plug for this event regardless. It was a blast last year and there's no reason to expect otherwise this time 'round. A nice "gathering of the clan" if you will and some fun flicks. Lin and I will be in attendance and hope to see you there!"

GR Bike Film Fest Update
It seems that there are lots of bicycle related films to be shown this Saturday night at Wealthy Theatre. So many in fact that they will only be showing a 10 minute segment of "More Than 100 Miles". So if you'd like to go to see lots of bike films - that's cool. If you want to see our documentary, in full, on the big screen, this is probably not the event for you.

D.V.SLOTS GOIN' FAST!
Hey Kids! Last time I checked we have about 38 riders heading to Death Valley. I talked to Trish about 24 hours ago and there were still approx 50 places left. Now is the time to talk to any of your ridin' buds, family-types or whomever that you think might wanna ride w/ us!
Let's try and keep our position as JDRF's Largest Team, huh?
Talk to y'all soon!

STILL TIME TO RIDE THE U.C.C. W/ YOUR TEAMMIES!
Okay - seems that the "Friday is the deadline to sign up" message that I got duped into spreading around was not 100% correct.
Yep - there goes THAT excuse!
Here's the thing - you can still sign up, but there's no guarantee that you'll get a t-shirt.
Now - as I happen to be in Santa Fe at the moment I don't know what time slots are still open but you can check w/ Jeremy @ the shop (616-355-2000) if you can't wait 'til Tuesday when I get back.
I have slots on the Velo City team too....jus' sayin'.
Step forward your Rock Stars! It'll be fun!

We are famous
In all the rush to get registered yesterday did anyone happen to take a look at the main JDRF Ride page? The one that lists all the dates and locations? It seems that a certain group of riders, from a certain mid western state, with a certain amount of decoration on their helmets, are the featured photo for Death Valley. If you want to check it out for yourself click here.
